ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
H
ow do you honour someone who touched the lives of everyone he met? How do you pay tribute to someone
who wore his heart on his sleeve and would give the shirt off his own back if need be? It’s hard to put into words the
emotions that we all feel at his passing. The sense of loss, the void that is left and the immense sadness that is felt.
You honour him by remembering the good times, the happy memories, and the way that he had an impact on your life.
Guy Tran was someone who always brought joy and put a smile on everyone’s face. Between the one-liners, the dad
jokes, and his quirky and witty sense of humour, he could always turn a frown into a smile. He was also someone who
you could have the most in-depth conversation with, and really feel that you were being listened to and understood.
Guy was an intuitive and smart guy. When he put his mind to something, he did it. He could look at something, think
about it and then just do it. Whether it be a project around his house, fixing something mechanical, or coming up with
one of his food creations which we all so very much loved, he did it all. His love for the culinary arts was very evident
through his passion for cooking –I am sure that many of us can attest to enjoying many takeouts from Ha’s Restaurant.
He was famous for trying out new spins on traditional food and recipes, for always thinking outside of the box, and
for pushing his creative limits. So much so, that he was a competitor on Chopped Canada and ended up winning the
competition – a proud moment for a small northern Ontario town, Guy, and his community. This led him to meeting
Chef Michael Smith and making the decision to relocate his family to Prince Edward Island. It was a big move, literally,
uprooting his family and starting a new chapter of their life by pursuing his passion of the culinary arts in this new
community. They made many friends and continued to touch the lives and win the hearts of so many people in PEI.
In hard and tough times of loss such as this, the true meaning of what a community is and how a community comes
together becomes very evident. Guy was a huge community supporter, involved in many community initiatives and
organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and the Almaguin Highlands Photography Project.
He was deeply
rooted in the community and devoted to ensuring the overall success of our area. The outpouring of support and love
that people have shown and continue to show his beautiful family is beyond what can be put into words. It is truly
what a small-town community is all about – being there to support each other. Guy’s life and his impact on our lives will
never be forgotten, he will always be a part of each and every one of us. His memory will live on through his children
and the great things that they will do in this world. We are truly grateful to have had the privilege of having him in our
lives, and he will be missed beyond words.
“When you remember me, it means you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left
some mark of who I am on who you are. It means that you can summon me back to your mind even
though countless years and miles may stand between us. It means that if we meet again, you will know
me. It means that even after I pass, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your
heart .”
